Deadly Koppal Crash: Tire Burst Sparks Fatal Fire
1 min readKarnataka’s Koppal district witnessed a heart-wrenching road tragedy early March 21, as a commercial truck’s tire mishap cascaded into a lethal collision and blaze, snuffing out two lives. The accident on the National Highway near Kushtagi has left investigators piecing together a chain of fatal errors.
The VRL-owned lorry, bound for Gangavati from Solapur, encountered trouble at 4:30 AM close to an Ashok Leyland showroom. A sudden tire rupture caused it to swerve wildly, crash over the median, and ram a oncoming tipper. The resulting rollover punctured the fuel tank, igniting a ferocious fire that damaged the roadway.
Fire services mounted a heroic response to quell the flames, but driver 35-year-old Govindappa from Anegundi and cleaner Huchchappa from Bommanhal, both of Yelburga’s Katagihalli village, had already succumbed to the wreckage’s brutality. Kushtagi police, documenting the scene, transported the remains for forensic analysis while initiating a comprehensive inquiry.
This high-impact crash disrupted the key transport artery, stranding vehicles amid cleanup. It spotlights vulnerabilities in long-haul trucking, from tire wear to emergency response times on congested highways.
Community leaders express condolences, advocating for advanced safety tech like tire pressure monitors. As the probe unfolds, the incident stands as a stark call to action for safer roads across India.
