With Republic Day around the corner, Indian Railways has hit the pause button on parcel bookings destined for Delhi, a move straight out of its security playbook. Divisions across the country, notably Bhopal, won’t send goods to the capital from Wednesday to Saturday, January 23-26.
The restriction blankets six pivotal stations: New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar, Delhi Sarai Rohilla, and Adarsh Nagar Delhi. Parcel depots shut down, packaging ops cease, and even privatized handling points like SLR and VPS join the standstill—no ins, no outs.
Passenger coaches stick to baggage basics for personal use only. Registered newsprint gets a narrow green light post-verification, but that’s it for Delhi traffic. The order ripples through all zones, stalling load-unload on relevant trains, complemented by ramped-up checks and patrols.
Such directives aren’t new; Railways routinely fortifies measures for flag-hoisting spectacles and VIP galas. Shippers, take note: reroute or delay to avoid snarls. This ensures the capital’s rails run passenger-priority, letting security shine unhindered amid parades and patriotism.
