The Supreme Court Tuesday cautioned a legislation scholar to not deal with the judges as “Your honour” because it was not the “US Supreme Court”. “When you call us ‘Your Honour’ it appears that you have the US Supreme Court in mind,” a bench of Chief Justice S A Bobde and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian informed the legislation scholar.
He instantly apologised to the bench and stated that he would deal with the court docket as “Your Lordship”.
To this, CJI Bobde stated: “Whatever, but don’t use inappropriate terms”.
The bench informed him that within the US Supreme Court and in magisterial court docket right here, the court docket could be addressed as “Your honour” however not in Indian Supreme Court.
