Union Home Minister Amit Shah has sounded the alarm on drug menace, declaring sustained awareness as India’s best defense. Addressing a national conclave, he painted a vivid picture of drugs eroding the country’s demographic dividend.
“Only relentless awareness will secure our safety in this war,” Shah stated firmly. He reviewed Operation Garuda, a pan-India sweep netting 5,000 kg of contraband in months.
The speech spotlighted innovative tools like AI surveillance at ports and drone patrols in vulnerable areas. Shah also pushed for de-addiction hubs in every district, integrating medical and counseling services.
He lauded volunteer networks mobilizing 10 crore pledges against drugs, emphasizing women’s role in family-level interventions. “No home should harbor silence on this issue,” he said.
Amid geopolitical shifts fueling trafficking, Shah revealed pacts with 15 nations for intel sharing. Domestic data shows a 25% dip in consumption in pilot regions, fueling optimism.
The gathering, attended by police brass and activists, ended with a charter for collective action. Shah’s roadmap blends enforcement with empowerment, eyeing a narcotic-free nation by 2047.
