ED stops Abhishek Banerjee’s relative from flying overseas; points summons

NEW DELHI/KOLKATA: TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s sister-in-law Maneka Gambhir was on Saturday night stopped by the ED on the Kolkata airport from flying overseas and was handed over a summons to affix the investigation in a cash laundering case, official sources stated.

Gambhir had reached the airport to take a flight to Bangkok departing round 9 PM.

The sources stated on Sunday that Gambhir was denied immigration clearance on the idea of a Look Out Circular (LOC) issued in opposition to her by the federal probe company.

She was stopped by the immigration authorities and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was knowledgeable following which they reached the airport, spoke to her and denied her permission to journey, they stated.

The ED officers subsequently handed over summons to her searching for her look earlier than the company on Monday (September 12) at 11 am at its workplace within the Salt Lake space in Kolkata for questioning in a cash laundering case linked to an alleged coal pilferage case of West Bengal, the sources stated.

She is known to have left the airport for her Kolkata house round 10:30 PM on Sunday.

Gambhir has not been questioned by the ED on this case until now.

The CBI had earlier questioned her within the stated case.

The Calcutta High Court in August directed the ED to query Gambhir at its regional workplace in Kolkata and never in Delhi and likewise to not take coercive steps in opposition to her until the subsequent date of listening to.
