ED Wins Partial Victory: Sanjay Bhandari Assets to Be Seized by Court

Breaking news from Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court: Partial seizure ordered for properties of fugitive arms broker Sanjay Bhandari, who has been on the run in London since 2016. Remaining assets’ fate to be decided on July 18.

Bhandari’s rap sheet is extensive—money laundering, tax fraud exceeding ₹196 crore, and undeclared foreign income of ₹655 crore, all tied to shady defense procurement deals. The 2016 raids exposed his operations, after which he fled, triggering ED’s global asset hunt.

The ED’s court plea outlined benami holdings in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Dubai, and the UK, valued at more than ₹100 crore. Despite opposition from Bhandari’s lawyers, the court sided with the agency on select properties following detailed arguments. This echoes the January 31 session where judgment was reserved.

With this ruling, the machinery for government takeover of these assets gains momentum. It reflects a broader crackdown on fugitives who stash wealth abroad while dodging Indian law.

Stakeholders await the July 18 proceedings, which could culminate in total asset forfeiture, stripping Bhandari of his financial shields and reinforcing judicial resolve against economic offenders.
