The North Central Railway (NCR) is undertaking a major initiative to improve passenger safety by installing CCTV cameras in 1,782 coaches across its Prayagraj, Jhansi, and Agra divisions. This project includes both LHB and ICF coaches. The installation is a crucial part of the railway’s plan to ensure safe travel for a large number of passengers on these routes. The implementation will be phased, with trains such as the Prayagraj-Dr. Ambedkar Nagar Express and others being prioritized in the initial stages. Premium trains like the Prayagraj Express and Shramshakti Express will be equipped with advanced AI-enabled cameras to provide real-time tracking and improved surveillance capabilities, allowing for quicker identification of potential threats. Each AC coach will be equipped with four high-quality cameras, while general coaches, SLR coaches, and pantry cars will have six cameras to ensure full coverage. These cameras are designed to record clear video, even when the train is traveling at over 100 kmph and in low-light settings. The video feeds will be monitored in real-time at both NCR headquarters and divisional railway manager offices, to enable prompt action. This move reinforces the railway’s commitment to passenger safety, and aligns with the larger strategy of digital transformation and technological advancements across the network.
