Norwegian diplomat and ex-Environment Minister Erik Solheim has articulated strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s transformative agenda, which propels India into modernity while nurturing its cultural essence. In an interview from New Delhi, Solheim described this as a rejection of wholesale Western adoption in favor of homegrown evolution.

‘PM Modi is fast-tracking India’s modernization without Westernizing it. His great India of tomorrow stands on its historical and heritage foundations,’ Solheim declared.

He addressed misconceptions in Western portrayals of Modi, linking them to unfamiliarity with India’s cultural dynamics. ‘What Western eyes see as suspect—religion and tradition—is the bedrock of Indian identity and power,’ Solheim observed.

This philosophy, deeply connected to Hindu traditions, charts a novel course for development where innovation coexists with inheritance. Solheim positions it as an influential paradigm for emerging economies.

On the political front, Solheim spotlighted BJP’s successes in states including West Bengal and Assam, and flagged the political ascent of Tamil Nadu’s Vijay from silver screen to stump speeches.

Globally, India’s commitment to peace shone through in Solheim’s recounting of a brief Pakistan skirmish resolved promptly by Modi. ‘No major wars in India’s history—just that one quick episode, ended swiftly. A model for others,’ he said.

Solheim’s commentary reinforces Modi’s role in elevating India’s stature, blending ancient wisdom with contemporary ambition to forge a resilient, culturally vibrant superpower.
