The National Green Tribunal has shaped a six-member committee and directed it to submit a report in reference to a gelatin explosion at a quarry website in Chikkaballapur in Karnataka that left six folks useless. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice A Okay Goel took observe of a media report and issued notices to the Central Pollution Control Board, state air pollution management board, Director Mines Karnataka and the District Magistrate Chikkaballapur.
“We constitute a six-member joint committee comprising the CPCB, State PCB, District Magistrate, Chikkaballapur, nominee of Director General, Mines, Chief Controller of Explosives, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Nagpur, and the Director, Mines, Karnataka to give a report to this tribunal,” the bench stated.
The nodal company for coordination and compliance would be the CPCB and the State PCB, the NGT stated whereas including that the committee might go to the positioning ideally inside subsequent one week and provides its report about the reason for the incident.
“Except for go to to the positioning a minimum of as soon as, the Committee will likely be free to conduct its proceedings on-line. It will likely be free to take the help from every other skilled/group.
“The Committee may suitably interact with the stakeholders and, apart from considering the present incident, also consider remedial measures for preventing such incidents in the area or by other establishments even beyond the said area,” the bench stated.
The tribunal took cognisance of media report dated February 23, 2021, which reported that six folks had been killed in a quarry blast in Hirenagavalli, Chikkaballapur on February 22.
The blast occurred in a stone quarry unit located in Hirenagavalli village. According to the preliminary info shared by the police, the quarrying work was stopped on the website on February 7 after native residents complained of rampant use of gelatin sticks.
The work continued regardless of the ban, and one other raid was carried out by the police, throughout which the contractor was warned to not use gelatin. The explosives went off when the lads had been making an attempt to dispose them off, the NGT famous.
