Extra Delhi Metro Trips Aim to Ease Road Congestion

In a bid to reduce traffic pressure on Delhi roads, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has increased extra train trips from six to 24 per day. The initiative is expected to attract more commuters who currently rely on private cars, offering them a faster, more predictable journey across the city and its satellite towns. DMRC says continuous monitoring of passenger demand guided the decision.

Operational readiness has been prioritized. Additional security personnel, extra ticket counters, and more baggage scanners are being deployed to handle the anticipated increase in passengers. Special attention is being given to peak hours so that boarding and alighting remain smooth and safe for everyone.

Connectivity has been enhanced at multiple levels. The metro system now provides seamless links to airports, railway stations, and major bus terminals. It also interfaces with the Namo Bharat RRTS and regional metro lines, creating a unified regional transport grid. Last-mile solutions at 160 stations include e-autos, bike taxis, and cab aggregators accessible through a single app.

To further encourage metro use, DMRC has rolled out digital ticketing platforms including WhatsApp booking and the National Mobility Card. The Metro Saarthi app now serves as a complete travel planner, allowing users to book metro tickets along with first- and last-mile rides in one transaction. Supported by 1,500 DTC buses and parking at 126 stations, the network is evolving into a comprehensive mobility ecosystem that reduces dependence on private vehicles.
