As many as 18 opposition events, led by the Congress might be boycotting the President’s tackle to the joint sitting of Parliament in solidarity with the farmers protesting towards the brand new farm legal guidelines. Besides Congress, the 15 different events are NCP, Shiv Sena, AITC, DMK, JKNC, SP, RJD, CPI(M), CPI, IUML, RSP, PDP, MDMK, Kerala Congress and AIUDF.

“The prime minister and the BJP government remain arrogant, adamant and undemocratic in their response. Shocked by this insensitivity of the government, the Opposition political parties, reaffirming the collective demand for the repeal of the anti-farmer laws and in solidarity with the Indian farmers, have decided to boycott the president’s address to both the houses of Parliament on Friday, January 29, 2021,” a joint assertion issued by varied events stated.
Releasing the assertion, senior Congress chief Azad, together with Deputy Leader of Opposition within the Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma and the celebration’s chief whip within the Lok Sabha Ok Suresh, stated farmers have been collectively combating towards the three farm legal guidelines “arbitrarily imposed by the BJP government”.
The events stated the federal government stays unmoved and has responded with water cannons, tear fuel and lathicharge on lakhs of farmers agitating towards the legal guidelines. Every effort has been made to discredit a reputable mass motion by means of a government-sponsored disinformation marketing campaign, they stated.

The events additionally stated although the protests remained peaceable, there have been some acts of violence on January 26 within the nationwide capital, which they condemned.
“We also express our sadness over the injuries sustained by Delhi Police personnel while handling the difficult situation. They stated the brand new farm legal guidelines threaten the way forward for agriculture, which sustains over 60 per cent of the inhabitants and the livelihood of crores of farmers, sharecroppers and farm labourers.
“The three farm laws are an assault on the rights of the states and violate the federal spirit of the Constitution. If not repealed, these laws will effectively dismantle the edifice of national food security that rests upon – minimum support price (MSP), government procurement and public distribution system (PDS),” the assertion stated.
It additionally alleged that the farm payments had been introduced with none consultations with the states and farmer unions, and lacked nationwide consensus.
“Parliamentary scrutiny was bypassed and the laws were pushed through muzzling the Opposition, in brazen violation of Parliamentary rules, practices and conventions. The very constitutional validity of these laws remains in question.”
The SAD individually stated it is going to boycott the president’s tackle in protest towards the “adamant manner” wherein the Centre was “bent” on implementing the three farm legal guidelines.
“In the present situation, when the central government is unmoved by the suffering of the community which has been agitating since months against the agri acts, we feel there is no responsibility on our part to attend the President’s address and hence we are boycotting the same,” it stated in an announcement.
The AAP additionally introduced its determination to boycott the president’s tackle and demanded a whole rollback of the three agri legal guidelines.
“The Aam Aadmi Party is opposing these anti-farmer laws from the very first day and our protest will continue. This is why it has decided to boycott the president’s address on Friday at Parliament,” the celebration’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh stated.
Azad earlier alleged that the principles and rules had been “thrown in the dust bin” when the farm payments had been handed, because of which the farmers took to the streets.
“Those responsible for the violence should be punished and taken to task. The government would have to take responsibility that had it not shown arrogance and taken the laws back, these incidents would not have taken place,” he stated.
“We strongly believe that the government has miserably failed in handling the farmers’ agitation,” he stated.
President Ram Nath Kovind would tackle a joint sitting of each homes of Parliament on Friday, heralding the beginning of the Budget Session of Parliament.
