A somber turn marred the joyous Kalash Yatra at Madhya Pradesh’s Navagraha Shakti Peeth in Dabra on Tuesday, as an elderly woman succumbed to a sudden collapse during the procession ahead of the temple’s Pran Pratishtha.
The ritualistic march, initiating a 10-day extravaganza of worship, originated at the stadium grounds with throngs of female devotees joining under the guidance of Narottam Mishra, senior BJP figure and temple trustee.
Midway through, the participant abruptly toppled over, prompting swift action from bystanders and police. She was conveyed to a medical facility but was confirmed dead by physicians.
Video footage captures the chaotic yet controlled scene with law enforcement dispersing the crowd. Mishra’s aide, Brijesh Dwivedi, verified: ‘More than 20,000 women graced the yatra; tragically, one elder fell ill and despite prompt aid, passed away.’
District authorities have fortified security for the program, anticipating a constellation of spiritual stalwarts: Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, Pradeep Mishra, Kumar Vishwas, Danti Maharaj, and representatives from prominent dhams.
Event planners had publicized Sant Badrish Ji Maharaj’s ritual leadership with 70 disciples and Danti Maharaj’s extended anushthans from February 10-20.
Cross-party political invitees add to the event’s stature, following Mishra’s outreach to Governor Mangubhai Patel.
While the tragedy underscores vulnerabilities in mass congregations, organizers remain committed to proceeding with reverence, honoring the deceased amid continued celebrations.
