Former Assam MLA, two others arrested for ‘conspiring’ to drift terror group

GUWAHATI: Former Assam MLA together with two others had been arrested by the police on Saturday for allegedly making an attempt to drift a militant organisation.

The police had performed a search on the residence of the previous MLA, Hitesh Basumatary, in Kokrajhar district and recovered one AK 47 and one M16 rifle together with 100 dwell cartridges.

Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Pushpraj Singh instructed TNIE that three individuals had been in custody and their interrogation was on.

“They were conspiring to form a new terror organisation. Based on that, they were arrested,” the SP stated.

“We produced them in a local court and it sent them to five-day police remand,” Singh stated.
