Fresh batch of 6,400 pilgrims go away Jammu camp for Amarnath Yatra

JAMMU: Amid tight safety, the 14th batch of 6,400 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims on Wednesday right here left for twin base camps of the three,880-meter-high holy cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, officers stated.

The yatra, which was suspended from Jammu attributable to unhealthy climate on Sunday, resumed on Monday.

A flash flood triggered by a cloudburst close to the cave shrine on Friday afternoon has led to the loss of life of not less than 16 folks. Around 40 are nonetheless lacking.

A complete of 6,415 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas right here in a convoy of 258 autos amid heavy safety of CRPF, the officers stated. Of these, 4,545 have been males, 1,744 ladies, 43 youngsters, 79 sadhus and 4 sadhvis, they stated.

The officers stated 2,428 pilgrims heading for Baltal have been the primary to depart the Bhagwati Nagar camp in 88 autos round 3.30 am, adopted by the second convoy of 170 autos carrying 3,987 pilgrims for Pahalgam at 4.30 am.

So far, over 1.30 lakh pilgrims have provided their prayers on the cave shrine, housing the naturally fashioned ice-shivlingam, the officers stated.

A complete of 83,073 pilgrims have left from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp for the Valley since June 29, the day the primary batch of pilgrims was flagged off by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. The yatra is scheduled to finish on August 11, on the event of Raksha Bandhan.
