Goa meeting: All 7 opposition members suspended for 2 days following protest over Manipur violence

PANAJI: All seven opposition members of the Goa legislative meeting had been suspended for 2 days on Monday after they protested and created a ruckus on the ground of the House over Manipur violence.

The suspended members are Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Congress MLAs Altone D’Costa and Carlos Ferreira, AAP’s Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva, Goa Forward Party’s Vijai Sardesai, and Viresh Borkar of Revolutionary Goans Party.

After Question Hour, Alemao demanded a dialogue on Manipur violence on the ground of the House, claiming that the non-public members’ decision moved final Friday by Cruz Silva on the problem was disallowed by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar.

All opposition members, wearing black, began making a ruckus on the House ground.

The Speaker mentioned that your complete nation is delicate in regards to the concern.

“The Union home ministry is dealing with the issue. The issue is discussed in Parliament. We cannot allow discussion on the issue on the floor of the House,” the Speaker dominated.

Unhappy with the reply, the opposition members rushed to the properly of the House shouting “Manipur, Manipur”.

As MGP legislator Jit Arolkar, who helps the BJP-ruled authorities, continued to talk, the opposition members rushed in the direction of him with posters and tried to stop him from talking.

The opposition members had been pushed out of the House by marshals.

After the incident, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and surroundings minister Nilesh Cabral demanded motion in opposition to the opposition members.

Sawant mentioned such behaviour can’t be tolerated.

Speaker Tawadkar then suspended the seven opposition MLAs from the meeting for 2 days — from Monday.

Scores of individuals have been killed and a number of other hundred injured since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3 when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised within the hill districts to protest in opposition to the bulk Meitei neighborhood’s demand for Scheduled Tribe standing.
