Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal revealed that the Indian government is actively evaluating the impact of the 25% US tariffs and will take all necessary actions to safeguard national interests. During a Lok Sabha address, Goyal stated the government’s commitment to the welfare of all stakeholders. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is holding discussions with exporters, industries, and stakeholders to assess the impact of the tariffs. Goyal emphasized the importance of protecting the interests of farmers, laborers, entrepreneurs, industrialists, exporters, MSMEs, and stakeholders in the industrial sector. He also addressed the Bilateral Trade Agreement negotiations initiated with the US in March 2025, with the aim of completing the first phase by October-November 2025. The minister also provided the timeline of the US tariffs, including the executive order, baseline duty, and subsequent extensions.
