The authorities on Wednesday declared the whole state of Nagaland a “disturbed area” for six months below the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act. 

Nagaland has been below the protection of the AFSPA for nearly six many years and it was not withdrawn even after a framework settlement was signed on August 3, 2015, by Naga rebel group National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak Muivah) General Secretary Thiungaleng Muivah and authorities interlocutor RN Ravi within the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

The determination to take care of the established order in Nagaland relating to protection of AFSPA, a legislation slammed by many civil society teams as “draconian”, got here amidst studies of deteriorating legislation and order state of affairs there. The AFSPA offers the armed forces sweeping powers to look and arrest, and to open hearth in the event that they deem it essential for “the maintenance of public order”.
