Emphasising that nationwide safety is paramount, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday mentioned that the central authorities is making honest efforts to offer equal consideration to all elements associated to safety. The Minister expressed his views after releasing an inaugural challenge of “National Police K-9 Journal”. It is first such publication within the nation on Police Service K9s (PSKs) or police canine.

“National security is paramount and our government is making sincere efforts to give equal attention to all aspects related to security. The police dog squad can act as a force multiplier to ensure the safety of society, much like the way drones or satellites are used in the country,” Shah mentioned. The Minister mentioned that the canine can be utilized successfully to detect medication and even within the struggle in opposition to terrorism.

A particular ‘Police K9 Cell’ was established in November 2019 beneath the Police Modernisation Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs with the mandate of ‘mainstreaming and augmentation of police service K9s within the nation’.

The publication of Police K9 journal is one other step in creating an ecosystem within the nation to coach and be taught on augmenting this very important useful resource.

The journal contains part in Hindi and English. Apart from safety forces personnel, a couple of overseas consultants too have contributed article to the inaugural challenge. It is a biannual journal to be launched in April and October yearly.
