Madhya Pradesh’s sacred city Ujjain gears up for the Vikram Utsav, a grand tribute to Emperor Vikramaditya spanning over a month from Sunday to March 19. Detailed by the state government post a high-level meeting led by CM Mohan Yadav, the event weaves religious rituals, artistic performances, and intellectual discourses.
Sunday’s launch includes vibrant Shivratri fairs, Kalash Yatra, and ‘Shivoham’ – a musical opus by acclaimed performers. The spotlight then shifts to theatre with the Vikram Theatre Festival (Feb 16-25), featuring elite national and international acts.
February 26-28 brings an International History Conference alongside puppet shows and research forums. A focused intellectual meet on Vikramaditya’s justice paradigms follows from Feb 28-Mar 1, succeeded by an All-India Kavi Sammelan on March 7.
Enriching the lineup are an international myth-fest screening films from 20+ countries, Vedic singing contests, and Gudi Padwa sunrise pujas. March 19 crowns the event as Ujjayini Gaurav Diwas with Shipra riverside ceremonies: Vikramaditya Awards, new Panchang release, Arsha Bharat sequel, and ‘Mahadev Ki Nadi Katha’ dance-narrative.
CM Yadav, during prep reviews, mandated holistic coverage of the emperor’s persona. ‘Connecting today’s youth to Vikramaditya’s legacy is vital for upholding our civilizational threads,’ he affirmed. He further instructed technical institutes to organize events illuminating the ruler’s scientific achievements.
Vikram Utsav promises to be more than a festival – it’s a cultural revival, fostering pride in India’s storied past while engaging modern minds.
