Tensions ran high in Madhubani’s Rajnagar area as police thwarted an armed fugitive’s escape, culminating in a shootout that left murder suspect Mohammad Arsad wounded and under arrest. The Sunday skirmish came days after the shocking execution-style killing of Jiram Mandal on February 10 near Ragho Pur Balat.
Swift investigative measures followed the homicide, with SP Yogendra Kumar tasking a specialist team under SDPO Sadar-Do to hunt down the culprits. After exhaustive surveillance, they identified Arsad as a prime suspect. A crucial tip revealed him riding pillion on a motorcycle with two aides, prompting a strategic blockade at Rampatti on Balat Road.
The motorcycle roared towards the checkpoint, and in a flash, Arsad drew his country pistol, firing wildly at the officers. Self-defense protocol kicked in; a police bullet struck his leg, grounding him as his partners vanished. Seized at the spot was the deadly weapon, loaded and ready.
An FIR now documents the confrontation at Rajnagar thana. Known for his trail of crimes—ranging from dacoity to petty thefts—Arsad faces a barrage of prior cases. Police are grilling him for leads on the murder plot and fleeing associates. This daring arrest not only avenges Mandal’s death but signals a crackdown on lawlessness plaguing Bihar’s rural belts.
