HC Warns of CBI Probe in Bokaro Missing Minor Case Failure

RANCHI: Jharkhand High Court bench of Justices Sujit Narayan Prasad and Sanjay Prasad unleashed a verbal barrage on Bokaro police Friday, criticizing their dismal track record in a five-year-old missing girl case from 2020. The court, during petition hearings, probed the systemic shortcomings plaguing investigations into female disappearances.

Pointing fingers at senior officers including SPs and DSPs, the judges asked why such critical cases evade resolution. Despite hints of abduction, police probes lacked vigor, the court observed with dismay.

Labeling the ongoing inquiry pathetic, the bench mandated CID to present updates within 21 days. In no uncertain terms, it warned of escalating to a CBI-state agency joint investigation if standards don’t rise.

The court flagged botched narco test attempts on suspects—one excused for ‘poor health’—and a panic transfer to CID in 2026 after prolonged stasis. With FIR 161/20 at Pindrajoda and suspects freed sans charges, the 14-year-old’s mother turned to the High Court in despair.

June 8 marks the next listing, clubbed with an 18-year-old’s vanishing petition from the district. This judicial push underscores a broader call for police reform in handling vulnerable missing persons reports.
