IMD Predicts Showers in Tamil Nadu South, Heatwave in Interiors
1 min readIn a tale of two weathers, southern Tamil Nadu awaits scattered rains while the hinterlands prepare for hotter days ahead, as per IMD’s latest advisory.
Moderate rainfall is likely in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, and select Western Ghats districts on Monday, at isolated locations. These showers promise temporary relief from the relentless summer blaze gripping the region.
Elsewhere in the state and in Puducherry, dry spells will dominate, offering no such breather.
A gradual rise in maximum temperatures is anticipated in inner districts, by up to 3°C in some spots, exacerbating the heat during daylight hours. Coastal zones will hold steady temperature-wise, yet elevated humidity levels could render the air oppressive.
Chennai residents can expect overcast skies intermittently, with peaks at 36-37°C and troughs at 27°C. Heavy downpours are off the table, leaving a humid haze in place.
Stable marine conditions mean no alerts for coastal fishermen, allowing normal fishing routines.
Amid these forecasts, officials emphasize preventive steps for heat vulnerability in non-coastal areas: ample fluid intake, shaded rests, and avoidance of strenuous midday activities. As Tamil Nadu navigates this transitional weather phase, timely advisories will be key to mitigating impacts.
