In a major development for Indian sports, the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship will be held in India for the first time, with Ahmedabad chosen as the host city. The event is expected to attract over 30 nations and more than 1000 athletes. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, launched the official logo and mascot, ‘Jalveer,’ an energetic aquatic superhero, at his residence in New Delhi. The championship will be held at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex between September 28 and October 11, 2025, a world-class facility built to Olympic standards. This championship offers Indian athletes a valuable chance to compete with Asia’s finest and is a qualifying event for the 2026 Asian Games. The mascot, ‘Jalveer,’ aims to inspire the upcoming generation of swimmers, embodying power, agility, and national pride. For Gujarat, hosting the Asian Aquatics Championship is an important strategic step toward their objective of bidding for the 2036 Olympic Games. Investments in the infrastructure are geared towards establishing a lasting sporting heritage.
