New Delhi witnessed a landmark academic event on February 21 as Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal launched three cutting-edge MA programs at O.P. Jindal Global University. Aimed at rule of law, democratic institutions, and elections, the degrees in Legislative Drafting, Electoral Analysis & Management, and Political Communication address contemporary challenges with professional rigor.
Joining them were Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and MP Naveen Jindal. Birla envisioned these courses revolutionizing youth contributions to politics, technology, and participation, building on India’s transparent electoral legacy since 1952. ‘More study means more innovation and engagement,’ he asserted, citing AI’s role in parliamentary outreach.
Meghwal underscored drafting’s criticality: ministries rely on meticulous processes for bill clarity. JGU’s programs will produce experts benefiting society broadly.
Venkataramani praised the timely curriculum for political reliability, while Mehta stressed JGU’s pioneering status in teaching drafting as a science. Jindal committed to advancing democratic processes through these unique offerings.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. C. Raj Kumar warned of uncertainties in drafting leading to court interventions, positioning the programs as antidotes amid global democratic erosion. They blend academics with hands-on learning for employability in politics, media, and policy.
Prof. Upasana Mahant introduced the trio: Electoral Analysis for campaign mastery; Political Communication for media savvy; Legislative Drafting for legal precision. Registrar Prof. Dabiru Sridhar Patnaik proposed thanks, capping an inspiring gathering poised to shape India’s governance experts.
