Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Participates in Srinagar’s Ashura Procession

Srinagar’s Shia Muslim community marked Ashura with a large procession, honoring Imam Hussein’s sacrifice. The event was attended by Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who offered water to the mourners. The procession followed the historic route from Bota Kadal to Imambara Zadibal. Thousands of people gathered to remember Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, who was martyred in 680 CE. The local government allowed the procession, implementing strict security measures to ensure communal harmony. Lieutenant Governor Sinha presented a ‘chadar’ to Zuljanah, Imam Hussein’s horse, as a gesture of unity. Security forces maintained a strong presence to facilitate the procession. This year’s observance was the third since the lifting of a 35-year ban. The procession concluded peacefully at Imambara Zadibal, with mourners showing respect for Zuljanah.
