Jharkhand village builds again its water wealth

RANCHI:  In an instance of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat,’ a village positioned within the Maoist hotbed Khunti in Jharkhand is changing into self-reliant in assembly its water wants. Guni village has adopted measures of water conservation by benefiting from the ‘Deen Dayaal Upadhyaya Swawalamban Yojana’ (DDUSY) of the Rural Development Department and growing their farm-productivity via group farming.

Due to the water conservation measures, the village was awarded ‘National Water Award’ within the Best Village Panchayat Category East Zone.’ Villagers discuss a ‘trench-cum-bund’ that they’ve constructed on about 400 acres, which has considerably elevated the water desk within the area. This has enabled them to domesticate three crops in a season.

“Government motivators made us understand exactly what we needed to do,” stated an area Laxman Sanga.
He says all village wells used to dry up in March. After the measures, there was no scarcity of water for irrigation functions. The village is totally free from open defecation and liquor sale and consumption of tobacco merchandise.

“The Gram Sabha decided to keep the village streets clean and involved kids and adults,” stated Seema Devi, public motivator below DDUSY.  Khunit Deputy Commissioner Shashi Ranjan says the villagers are being mobilised to make them self-sufficient. “The village is made completely free from open defecation and liquor while cattle are not allowed to graze in the open,” he stated.
