A student at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra in Ranchi, Jharkhand, was the victim of a violent attack on Wednesday night. An MBA student was harassed by an unknown person on campus. When the student resisted the harassment, the attacker used a blade, inflicting injuries. The injured student was immediately taken to a nearby nursing home for treatment. The incident quickly ignited protests from students, who gathered on campus late into the night to voice their anger. Even with the college administration’s efforts and the presence of the local BIT OP police station, the students continued to demonstrate. As a result of the attack, students have declared a class boycott for Thursday to show their solidarity. Police from the BIT OP police station are actively investigating the case and collecting information from the victim. The attack took place late Wednesday evening. The student was walking on campus when the unknown individual approached, began harassing her, and subsequently attacked her with a blade when she resisted. The police are currently examining CCTV footage from the campus to find the attacker. BIT Mesra, a renowned institution, was founded in 1955 by industrialist B.M. Birla. The campus spans around 780 acres and has been granted deemed university status by the UGC, and is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). This year, President Droupadi Murmu was the chief guest at the 70th-anniversary celebrations on February 15th.
