A significant brown sugar trafficking network has been exposed in Ranchi, Jharkhand, with links traced to Sasaram, Bihar. Police launched a Special Investigation Team (SIT), resulting in the arrest of drug traffickers in Bihar and the dismantling of an interstate gang. The key individual running this operation was Mohini Sharma, also known as Mohini Devi, a 65-year-old woman. She is considered the main operator. Based on information provided, four other suspects connected to the brown sugar trade were arrested. The arrested individuals include Mohini Sharma (65), Sumit Tirkey (22), Paras Kumar (25), Mohammad Ismail (29), and a minor. DSP Prakash Soy from the Kotwali police reported that Ranchi’s SSP, Chandan Sinha, received a tip-off about Mohini Devi, who was allegedly involved in the sale and purchase of brown sugar, operating from her rented house and managing a drug network. A police team, led by the Kotwali DSP, raided Mohini Sharma’s residence, where they found approximately 50 packets of brown sugar and a smartphone. This recent arrest comes after the earlier apprehension of Ruby Devi, also known as ‘Bhabhi Ji,’ from Sasaram, Bihar, by Ranchi police in June. During the investigation, it was revealed that Ruby Devi’s family was involved in drug trafficking, with several cases filed against her at the Sukhdevnagar police station in Ranchi. The arrest of the 65-year-old woman, dubbed ‘Dadi Amma,’ is a critical development in ongoing efforts to curb the brown sugar trade.
