Giridih police have successfully apprehended three key players in a large-scale cyber fraud network, individuals who had accumulated millions through illegal online activities. The arrested trio includes Khurshid Ansari from Dharleto village, Alamgir Ansari residing in Chetnari (Deoghar), and Md. Sharafat Ansari from Jhilua (Deoghar district). During the arrests, authorities seized 8 mobile phones, 10 SIM cards, two motorcycles, two ATM cards, an Aadhaar card, a PAN card, and a driving license, underscoring the scale of their operations. Giridih SP Dr. Vimal Kumar provided these details at a press briefing.
The police acted upon specific intelligence received via the ‘Pratibimb’ portal, which pinpointed fraudulent activities occurring in the Telkhari forest area of Kachhel village. A specialized task force, led by Cyber DSP Abid Khan, was rapidly assembled. This unit conducted a successful raid, leading to the capture of the three cybercriminals.
During interrogation, the accused detailed their sophisticated fraudulent methods. They confessed to creating fake customer care listings on Google, impersonating bank officials, and distributing malicious links for fake payment applications. The SP elaborated that these criminals targeted the public by exploiting trust and technology, often operating under the guise of legitimate services. The group also admitted to supplying counterfeit ATM cards and SIM cards to other individuals involved in cyber fraud.
SP Dr. Vimal Kumar further stated that the arrested individuals face charges in multiple states. Sharafat Ansari, in particular, has a prior history of cybercrime, including a jail term in Chhattisgarh and pending complaints in Uttarakhand. His illicit earnings are estimated to be over ₹60 lakh, and he owns a Mahindra XUV. Alamgir Ansari has also allegedly profited to the tune of over ₹25 lakh from his involvement in these schemes.
The Giridih police are committed to a sustained campaign against cybercrime, vowing to intensify efforts until the entire district is free from such threats. The successful operation was a collaborative effort involving Cyber DSP Abid Khan, Cyber Police Station in-charge Rameshwar Bhagat, Inspectors Gunjan Kumar and Ram Pravesh Yadav, and a dedicated team of police officers, including Mukhiyar, Amarnath Prasad, and Sandeep Kumar Verma.
