Giridih experienced a festive atmosphere on Friday subsequent to the Jharkhand cabinet’s approval of the PESA (Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas) rules on December 23rd. In recognition of this milestone, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) organized a ‘Gratitude March,’ extending thanks to Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his administration. The event featured the distribution of sweets at the JMM district office, followed by a vibrant procession filled with drumming and banners, concluding at Tower Chowk.
District President Sanjay Singh stated that the Hemant Soren government has successfully delivered on a crucial promise: the establishment of tribal self-governance in scheduled areas, fulfilling a vision 25 years in the making for Jharkhand. He explained that the PESA law will empower Gram Sabhas, positioning them to play a critical role in planning and implementing local development schemes. District Secretary Mahalal Soren pointed out that this legislation safeguards the rights of tribal communities concerning water, forests, and land. The move was also praised by Nunu Ram Kisku (Tiger) and District Spokesperson Krishna Murari Sharma as a historically significant step for community empowerment and the state’s overall development.
