A significant structural failure occurred late Saturday night in Bokaro, but disaster was averted as no injuries were reported. A section of a four-story building in the Sector 1B HSCL Colony, under the City Police Station’s purview, suddenly collapsed. The rear part of the building gave way, causing alarm among residents. All families residing in the building managed to escape unharmed. The incident happened near houses 351 to 366 in Sector 1B. The old and structurally unsound building’s rear section crumbled with a loud sound, drawing immediate attention from neighbors and leading to a crowd. City Police, the Municipal Corporation, and Civil Defense teams were quickly dispatched to the location. Safety measures include a secured perimeter around the building and the evacuation of adjacent properties. Families who lost their belongings to the rubble spent the night in an open space. The administration has initiated debris removal and is providing support to the displaced residents. A visiting legislator met with the affected individuals and requested the local administration to arrange temporary housing at the Town Hall. The legislator also noted that prior warnings about the colony’s poor condition had been disregarded. Preliminary investigations by the City Police suggest that dampness and structural weakness were the main contributing factors to the collapse.
