IED Blast Victim: Wild Elephant Succumbs to Injuries in Saranda
1 min readIn a tragic blow to wildlife conservation in Jharkhand, an elephant injured by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has died in the Saranda forest. The animal was discovered with a shattered leg in the Kolbonga area following a powerful explosion suspected to have been triggered by a pressure mine. For several days, experts from the forest department and specialized veterinarians administered medication and pain relief to stabilize the creature.
The treatment process involved the use of high-grade antibiotics to combat the aggressive infection that had set into the blast wound. Forest guards and medical staff maintained a 24-hour vigil, hoping for a miracle. However, as the days passed, the elephant’s strength began to fail. Dr. Sanjay Gholatkar explained that the shock of the blast combined with the systemic infection eventually led to multi-organ failure.
The death of the elephant has reignited concerns regarding the safety of wildlife in regions plagued by insurgent activities. Saranda, once a safe haven for Asian elephants, continues to face threats from hidden explosives. Authorities have stated that they are taking the matter seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the blast while the post-mortem report is awaited.
