Jharkhand Doctor Suspended After Tragic Torchlight Delivery Deaths
1 min readJharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari has taken a stern stand following the tragic death of a woman and her newborn at the Rajnagar hospital in Seraikela. The deaths, which occurred while doctors were forced to use mobile torches during a power outage, have been described by the minister as a ‘shameful and extremely serious’ failure of the medical system. Taking immediate action, the minister has ordered the suspension of the medical officer-in-charge of the Rajnagar CHC. He has also directed the Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, Ajay Kumar Singh, to ensure that the strictest possible disciplinary measures are taken against all staff members involved in this negligence.
The minister’s intervention comes at a time when the state government is facing intense heat from the opposition. Dr. Ansari warned the Civil Surgeon of the district that any further laxity in responsibility would result in immediate dismissal. He emphasized that such negligence is not just a medical failure but a blow to humanity. The government has promised a thorough investigation to determine why the hospital was operating without a functional power backup and why the patient was not shifted to a more capable facility earlier. This case has now become a focal point for the urgent need to reform emergency protocols in the state’s healthcare network.
