The fight against Naxalism in Jharkhand saw a major breakthrough as security forces eliminated Amit Hansda, a prominent Zonal Commander, in the Chaibasa region of West Singhbhum district. The encounter took place on Sunday morning. The Jharkhand government had placed a reward of 10 lakh rupees for information leading to his capture. An SLR rifle and other materials were recovered from the site. Acting on specific intelligence, a joint operation was initiated near Relaparal village, Goilkera, where Naxal elements were reported to be planning a significant event. As security forces approached, they were met with gunfire, leading to a fierce exchange in which Amit Hansda was killed. He was identified at the scene and was a long-standing figure in Naxal operations, involved in numerous violent acts. This successful operation is seen as a major boost for the police and paramilitary forces, significantly impacting the Naxal network. The area has been sealed off, and a comprehensive search is underway, with the possibility of other Naxalites being present. This operation follows a similar success on August 6th in Gumla district, where Martin Kerketta, the PLFI chief, was killed.
