No 108 Ambulance in Jamtara: Fatal Negligence Sparks Outrage

The death of a patient who was brought to the hospital on a tractor-trolley has caused a political and social storm in Jamtara, Jharkhand. Monu Tudu, who fell critically ill on Friday night, died during treatment at the Jamtara Sadar Hospital. His family has accused the state's 108 ambulance service of gross negligence, stating that the service was unreachable during their hour of need. The sight of a patient being carried on a cot atop a tractor has become a symbol of the medical challenges faced by the poor in the region. Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari, whose home constituency is Jamtara, has taken note of the incident. He acknowledged the recurring complaints regarding the 108 ambulance service and stated that action has been initiated against the driver and responsible personnel. While the government promises reforms and stricter monitoring, the villagers remain skeptical. They point out that in remote areas, the absence of a reliable ambulance service often turns a treatable condition into a death sentence.
