A boat carrying numerous passengers capsized in the Ganga River in the Sahibganj district of Jharkhand, resulting in a major incident. The boat was carrying 31 people in total. As a result of the capsizing, four individuals were submerged in the river. One body has been recovered, and three people are still missing. Twenty-seven passengers managed to save themselves by swimming against the strong currents. The accident occurred in the Gadai Diara area, which falls under the Ganga River police station’s jurisdiction. Information suggests that about 17 tribal youths from a village near the Binduvasini temple and a mountain close to the Barharwa block, which is approximately 70 kilometers from the Sahibganj district headquarters, had gone to catch rats. They used a boat from Maharajpur Ganga Ghat to cross the Ganga River. On their return, other local people boarded the same boat. This increased the number of people on the boat to 31, causing it to be overloaded. The boat became unstable amid the river’s strong and high waves and overturned in the Ganga’s current. The situation was chaotic after the boat capsized. Some youths who were present bravely jumped into the Ganga to attempt to rescue the passengers who were drowning, but they were unable to save them. Of the four youths who drowned, one was recovered, but unfortunately, he was already dead. The other three youths are still missing, and local divers and the administration are working together in the search.
