Terror gripped Patrahatu village in Ranchi district on Tuesday when a wild hyena bypassed residential fences and entered a local government school. With over 50 students inside the building, the situation escalated quickly as the animal sought refuge within the school walls. The animal’s entry into a classroom created a life-and-death situation. However, the crisis was managed by the community’s rapid response; villagers locked the room from the outside while teachers ensured the children were safely evacuated. Forest department officials from Ranchi were summoned to conduct a rescue operation that required nearly three hours of careful maneuvering. The rescue team, consisting of experts from the Birsa Munda Biological Park, ensured that the hyena was captured without sustaining any injuries. Following its capture, the hyena was taken for a medical assessment to ensure it was fit for release back into the wild.
