A fierce encounter in the Lugu mountain area of Bokaro district led to the elimination of Kunwar Manjhi, a Naxalite with a bounty of five lakh rupees. A jawan of the Cobra Battalion also lost his life in the exchange. The police initiated a special operation based on information about Naxal activity near Lugu Mountain. A gunfight ensued during the search operation, resulting in the death of the top Naxal leader and the recovery of his AK-47. The Naxals attempted to use villagers to shield themselves; they shot and killed a villager in an attempt to divert the police. The incident occurred on the same Lugu mountain where a significant encounter took place in April. Search operations are ongoing to find other Naxals.
