Ramgarh Mobile Retailer Cheated Using Fake Digital Transaction
1 min readAuthorities in Ramgarh are investigating a daring scam where a criminal impersonated a high-ranking police official’s aide to steal a high-end smartphone. The incident highlights the growing sophistication of social engineering tactics used by cyber-criminals in Jharkhand. Ramgarh Station House Officer (SHO) Naveen Prakash Pandey confirmed that a First Information Report has been lodged and a search is underway for the suspect.
The scammer managed to bypass the shop owner’s suspicion by using a fake caller ID and a seemingly legitimate vehicle. The investigation reveals that the thief used a manipulated screenshot of a payment app to convince the delivery person that the funds were sent. The police have issued a fresh advisory to businesses, emphasizing that goods should only be handed over after verifying the arrival of funds in the bank account, rather than relying on digital screenshots provided by the buyer.
