The Ranchi airport area is slated for a major transformation, with the state government approving a budget of Rs 45.3 crore to develop the region on par with metropolitan standards. Chief Minister Hemant Soren is overseeing the initiative, which focuses on improving the Airport Road, Hinu Chowk, and Birsa Chowk. Urban Development Minister Sudivya Kumar has approved five key projects to facilitate the upgrade. The Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Sunil Kumar, has mandated JUIDCO to expedite the tendering process for the project’s execution. The objective is to modernize and beautify the airport vicinity under urban planning, ensuring a positive first impression for visitors. The allocated funds will be utilized for various improvements: road strengthening from the airport to Hinu Chowk will receive Rs 10.42 crore, while landscaping and decorative lighting will be allocated Rs 14.64 crore. The renovation of the Hinu to Birsa Chowk road will be supported by Rs 7.50 crore, with an additional Rs 9.03 crore for landscaping enhancements. The development of Hinu Chowk and its roundabout will be allocated Rs 3.42 crore. The Airport to Hinu Chowk route will be expanded to a six-lane road, incorporating modern elements like footpaths, cycling paths, smart streetlights, and LED lighting. The design will incorporate artwork reflecting tribal culture, along with stone artwork, grand archways inspired by Jharkhand’s heritage, and comprehensive landscaping. The Hinu Chowk to Birsa Chowk route will also be renovated and upgraded, featuring six-lane roads, dividers planted with trees, and provisions for pedestrians and cyclists. New features will include shade trees, designer lighting, and public amenities like restrooms. Hinu Chowk itself will be modernized, with enhancements to the Karpuri Thakur statue and the installation of statues honoring Jharkhand’s freedom fighters. The existing roundabout will be enlarged and enhanced with contemporary lighting and landscaping.
