A petty dispute escalated into a major catastrophe in Palamu’s heartland, where a general store in Nirala Tola, Sual village under Medininagar Sadar thana, was deliberately burned down. The trigger? Shopkeeper Rajesh Kumar Gupta’s inability to provide cigarettes to a group of impatient youths late Wednesday.
Details emerged Thursday as Rajesh detailed the ordeal: Four men from an adjacent locality, including Ritik Singh and Chhotu Singh, arrived post-midnight, aggressively demanding smokes. Stock depleted, Rajesh’s polite refusal met with verbal abuse, collar-grabbing, and ominous threats. They left fuming, and soon after, the shop burst into flames.
