Friends and associates gathered for a memorial service to commemorate the life of Shailesh Kumar, former president of IPTA Palamu, who recently passed away. The event served as an occasion to celebrate his impactful presence in both the cultural and educational spheres. Kumar balanced his career as a teacher with extensive involvement in social and cultural activities. His leadership at IPTA Palamu was pivotal in advancing the organization’s artistic and activist agenda. He carried forward a strong cultural heritage, following in the footsteps of his father, Valmiki Singh, a former IPTA president and school principal, who championed progressive values. Beyond his professional expertise in geography, Kumar possessed a remarkable literary talent, especially in poetry, where his writings conveyed political satire and deep philosophical insights. Following his wife’s death, he retired early and moved to Delhi with his family. Despite the distance, he remained actively engaged with IPTA Palamu, offering support and praise for projects like the cultural school. Ravi Shankar, secretary of IPTA Palamu, proposed that continuing Kumar’s work and spirit would be the highest honor, after which a moment of silent remembrance was observed. The gathering included many prominent figures from the cultural scene, with numerous absent members also sending their respects.
