Toxic Fumes in Abandoned Ramgarh Mine Lead to Four Fatalities

Chaos erupted in the Giddi area of Ramgarh after a routine attempt at illegal coal extraction turned into a mass casualty event. Four laborers, identified as residents of Sirka and nearby settlements, were killed when a pocket of toxic gas was breached inside a closed coal mine. The victims, who had entered the underground cavern without any safety gear, were quickly overwhelmed by the lack of oxygen and the presence of lethal gases. Witness accounts describe a scene of intense panic as villagers rushed to the mine's entrance to assist in recovery operations. The local police, alongside rescue experts from Central Coalfields Limited, managed to retrieve the victims and transport them to the nearest medical facility. However, the intervention came too late for Deva Kumar Bedia, W Bedia, Ashish Rajwar, and Kishore Ravani. Senior administrative officials, including Circle Officer Ramesh Ravidas, are currently monitoring the situation at the hospital morgue, emphasizing the extreme peril of entering decommissioned mining sites without authorization.
