Security personnel at the Basudevpur Colliery were victims of a violent attack on Monday night. The incident occurred around 10:30 PM near the colliery office, resulting in injuries to the guards. Reports indicate that a group of anti-social elements assaulted the security staff. One security guard sustained a severe head injury during the attack. The altercation began when a group of 5-6 individuals approached the office, where security guards Prem Kumar Upadhyay, Shankar Kumar Das, and Dilip Ravidas were present. The attackers initiated the conflict with verbal abuse, and the situation quickly escalated to physical violence when the guards protested. Prem Kumar Upadhyay was seriously injured as a result of the assault. A motorcycle parked nearby was also damaged during the incident. The injured guard was initially taken to the Loyabad regional hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the BCCL Central Hospital in Dhanbad for specialized medical attention. The colliery management reported the incident to the police, who arrived at the scene to investigate. In the aftermath of the attack, security personnel submitted a written application to the project officer, requesting increased security measures and demanding that the perpetrators be brought to justice. Security guards Shankar Kumar Das and Dilip Ravidas, when questioned, confirmed the attack, stating that they were confronted by a group of 5-6 individuals, resulting in one guard’s head injury and damage to a vehicle. Colliery manager Santosh Choudhary confirmed the incident, stating that the colliery management filed a formal complaint with the Loyabad police station, and that the police are investigating the matter.
