J&Ok: Heavy snowfall declared state-specific pure calamity

To expedite disbursement of reduction and ex-gratia for injury attributable to snowfall, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday declared ‘Heavy Snowfall’ as a state-specific pure calamity beneath the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) norms.
The Lieutenant Governor was chairing a digital assembly with all DCs and SSPs of Kashmir division to take inventory of the administration’s winter administration measures, particularly snow clearance efforts.
Earlier, ‘Heavy Snowfall’ didn’t determine within the listing of Natural Calamities beneath SDRF norms, because of which disbursement of reduction and ex-gratia for injury because of heavy snowfall was not attainable for the districts’ catastrophe administration authorities.

He requested the officers to be extra delicate and aware of the problems of the general public and take crucial measures.

“Be visible and take early measures. Need more feet on the ground. Quickly reach out to the people to address their needs and requirements,” the Lt Governor advised the officers.
Taking cognizance of media studies, social media posts and grievances obtained from the general public, the Lt Governor requested the administration to establish gaps and take quick measures to fill them to redress the problems confronted by the folks.
