Kamakhya Corridor Project Speeds Up as Legal Issues Resolved: Sarma
1 min readAssam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma brought good news for millions of Kamakhya devotees. On Thursday, he declared that the Rs 498 crore Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor project will accelerate now that major legal impediments have been lifted.
In an X post, Sarma detailed his recent progress review at the site. He reiterated the government’s resolve to deliver superior amenities at the iconic temple. The focus remains on creating seamless access for worshippers flocking to this ancient Shakti Peeth.
Initiated under PM-DevINE in February 2024, the redevelopment tackles longstanding bottlenecks. It promises to decongest the precincts, vital during mega-gatherings like Ambubachi Mela. Expansions include tri-level corridors, broadened pathways from narrow 8-10 ft trails to 27-30 ft avenues, and vastly enlarged plazas from 3,000 to 1 lakh+ sq ft.
The venture had hit snags from environmental lawsuits protecting Nilachal’s legacy and water bodies. With those resolved, momentum builds for timely completion.
This corridor isn’t just bricks and mortar—it’s a gateway to enriched spiritual journeys. Sarma’s vision positions Kamakhya as a benchmark for heritage-sensitive urban upgrades, ensuring future generations inherit both devotion and dignity in their pilgrimages.
