Kerala meeting unanimously adopts decision urging Centre to rename state as ‘Keralam’

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala legislative meeting unanimously adopted a decision on Wednesday urging the Centre to formally change the state’s identify to ‘Keralam’.

Moving the decision, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urged the Union Government to vary the state’s identify to ‘Keralam’ in all languages included within the eighth schedule of the Constitution. 

Pinarayi stated that the state known as ‘Keralam’ in Malayalam, however in different languages, it’s nonetheless Kerala. The state’s identify was additionally listed as ‘Kerala’ within the First Schedule of the Constitution.

“This Assembly unanimously requests the Union Government to take immediate steps to amend it as ‘Keralam’ under Article 3 of the Constitution and be renamed as ‘Keralam’ in all the languages mentioned in the eighth schedule of the Constitution,” he stated. 

The Opposition UDF welcomed the decision and didn’t counsel any amendments or modifications to it. 

Speaker AN Shamseer declared the decision as unanimously adopted by a present of arms.
