Suspended Kerala Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil is facing official charges following a grave accusation of sexual assault and forced pregnancy termination made by a woman. The case has been registered at Valiyamala Police Station after authorities recorded the complainant’s detailed statement. Police have confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway to scrutinize all claims thoroughly. The accuser had previously met with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to lodge her complaint, citing severe misconduct by the suspended Congress legislator. Further official statements are anticipated following the completion of initial investigative procedures. The Congress party leadership in Kerala has indicated a hands-off approach regarding the legal case. Deepa Dasmunsi, the AICC representative for the state, highlighted that Mamkootathil’s suspension is already in effect and that legal proceedings will be respected. She also commented on the complainant’s choice to approach the Chief Minister directly, suggesting a police complaint might have been a more conventional first step. In a separate development, senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan clarified the scope of Mamkootathil’s suspension concerning election campaigning.
