The upcoming local body elections in Kerala have a confirmed schedule, with polling days set for December 9 and December 11. The comprehensive results will be announced on December 13, following the counting of votes across the state.
The first leg of voting on December 9 will encompass Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam. Voters in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod will exercise their franchise in the second phase on December 11.
A total of 1,199 local governing bodies are involved in this electoral process. Recent ward delimitation has expanded the number of wards to 23,612, up from 21,900 previously. Voting will take place in 23,576 wards, with the exception of Mattannur’s wards.
For those intending to contest, the last date to submit nominations is November 21. Following this, nominations will be checked on November 22, and candidates can withdraw their names up to November 24. The Election Commission is actively working to prevent the spread of fake news and misinformation during the election period. The updated voter list will be published on November 14, and the polling duration for both days will be from 7 am to 6 pm.
