Khera Vows Full Cooperation in Sarma Passport Allegations Case

Guwahati Crime Branch’s persistent probe into Congress leader Pawan Khera took center stage as he faced yet another interrogation session. Outside the office, Khera was forthright with journalists: ‘Every question asked, I’ve answered without hesitation. I’ll keep doing so—no discussions outside the process.’

Scheduled for a follow-up on the 25th, Khera views his participation as a civic duty. ‘Investigations demand cooperation from responsible citizens, and I’m here for it,’ he declared, recalling the exhaustive 11-plus-hour questioning the day before.

The case originates from an FIR by Rinki Bhuiyan Sarma, accusing Khera of falsely claiming she owns several foreign passports and maintains foreign economic interests. Provisions under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita cover defamation, forgery, cheating, and more, painting a serious picture.

Supreme Court intervention with anticipatory bail had conditioned Khera’s release on investigative assistance—a condition he’s evidently honoring. Post-interrogation, he affirmed, ‘I’m cooperating with police as a law follower and trust the judiciary completely.’

This episode underscores Assam’s charged political environment, where personal allegations fuel legal confrontations. Khera’s composed demeanor contrasts the intensity of charges, potentially influencing narratives around opposition voices and government responses. With more sessions ahead, the outcome could reverberate through national political conversations on truth, libel, and legal recourse.
